Steve & Elaine Wynn – $741 million
Casino mogul Steve Wynn had lot’s of luck in business, but as far as his love life he’s managed to strike out twice, with the same woman! Wynn divorced his wife, Elaine, for the second time in 2010, costing the billionaire $741 million!
Paul McCartney & Heather Mills – $48.6 Million
When Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills celebrated their marriage with a lavish $3.2 million wedding in Ireland, he probably wasn’t thinking that he’d be spending a whole lot more than that dissolving it. In the end, McCartney’s investment in Mills didn’t turn out too well for the former Beatle, as he had to pay her $48.6 million as a divorce settlement. The model turned activist was also awarded $15 million in real estate, including an English seaside condo in Angel’s Rest, and a countryside home in Pean’s Wood.
Neil Diamond & Marcia Murphey – $150 million
Neil allegedly fell in love with the TV producer while he was still married to his first wife, Jane Posner. After they had divorced, Marcia stepped in and married the singer-songwriter in 1969. 25 years and two children later, Murphey filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, and walked away with half of Neil’s earnings: $150 million! Once rumors of Diamond’s unfaithfulness spread around Hollywood, the odds were in Marcia’s favor. However, Neil isn’t bitter; he later said that “she’s worth every penny.”
Robert & Sheila Johnson – $400 million
Professional differences became personal for Sheila and Robert Johnson. The co-founder of Black Entertainment Television is also known for being the first male African-American billionaire. After 33 years of marriage to his partner, Sheila Johnson, the two decided to separate in 2002; but it wasn’t that simple. Two years before their divorce, in 2000, Johnson sold BET to Viacom for $3 billion; of which Sheila ended up getting $400 million. Sheila also ended up marrying her divorce lawyer in one of the most epic divorce plot twists ever.
Bernie & Slavica Ecclestone – $1 Billion
Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone are definitely known for being one of the most expensive divorces. A well-known model in her heyday, Slavica has also become the ex-wife of former Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone. In 2009, the unlikely couple made headlines for all the wrong reasons after having a divorce settlement worth an incredible $1 billion! Not wasting any time, Slavica turned this money into $1.6 billion from investments. She sure knew how to turn this negative into a very profitable positive.
Alec & Jocelyn Wildenstein – $2.5 Billion
Alright, so Bernie and Slavica’s astronomical divorce settlement was impressive, but they have nothing on the Wildensteins! Jocelyn managed to get $2.5 billion out of her former spouse Alec Wildenstein, who is a French businessman, art dealer, racehorse owner, and billionaire. Renowned for her plastic surgery, costing a total of $2 million, Jocelyn thought changing her look would make her husband more interested in her. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. She later sued for divorce on the grounds of her husband’s adultery in 1999.
Dmitry & Elena Rybolovlevi – $4.5 Billion
You’d think that a couple who has been together for 26 years would stay together forever; but sadly for Dmitry and his bank account, this wasn’t the case. Dmitry ended up coughing up half of his money, during a long and bitter divorce with his now ex-wife Elena Rybolovlevi. The six-year legal battle that put the Russian billionaire in the spotlight finally came to an end after he reluctantly agreed to a hefty settlement with his ex-wife Elena, who was awarded $4.5 billion by a Swiss court.
Rupert Murdoch & Wendi Deng – $1.8 Million
Rupert Murdoch started dating Chinese-American actress and businesswoman Wendi Deng shortly after separating from his first wife. The News Corporation chairman and CEO didn’t waste any time as he married Deng just 17 days after his previous divorce was finalized. In June 2013, Murdoch decided Deng wasn’t doing it for him anymore and divorced her, settling for a mere $1.8 million. However, Murdoch did leave Deng with a Beijing Mansion worth an estimated $10 million, so if times get tough, she can always cash in on that.
Rupert Murdoch & Anna Maria Torv – $1.2 Billion
We couldn’t write about Rupert Murdoch without mentioning Anna Maria Torv, his wife of 32 years! The couple who had three children together split up in 1999. The media mogul who owned news outlets such as New York Magazine and Century FOX Films ended up amassing a net worth of $8 billion. Torv received $1.2 billion as part of the couple’s divorce settlement. Torv got herself together quickly as she remarried six months later to financier William Mann, to whom she is still married.
Heidi Klum & Seal – $70 Million
This is one Hollywood couple we were all especially invested in rooting for their success from the sidelines. Heidi claims that Seal’s temper got so out of control that it started to scare their children, which is when she decided to divorce the singer. Although our hearts are broken as a result of Heidi Klum and Seal’s break-up, what’s even more broken is the supermodel’s bank account! Despite their prenup agreement, Klum ended up settling the divorce for $70 million.
Michael & Diandra Douglas – $45 Million
The Oscar-winning actor married the 19-year-old daughter of an Austrian diplomat, in 1977, and had a son with her a year later. In 1995, Diane filed for divorce after Michael’s years of drug abuse and time in prison took a toll on the marriage. By the end of their divorce, Diandra received a $45 million settlement, which was half of the actor’s net worth at the time. Diandra also received a share in projects related to work Michael did while they were together.
Demi Moore & Bruce Willis – $90 Million
Everyone’s favorite 90’s couple, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, were married for 11 years and even have three daughters together, which for Hollywood standards pretty impressive! Sadly, like most of our favorite celebrity marriages, it didn’t last forever. After the couple divorced in 2000, Bruce said that he felt like “he had failed as a father and as a husband.” In the meantime, Demi moved on with a new and younger man, Ashton Kutcher, as well as a $90 million settlement.
Steven Spielberg & Amy Irving – $100 Million
Although Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving didn’t have the best start to their relationship, the two ended up marrying in 1985. Three and a half years into their marriage, the couple agreed to divorce, as they were continuously complaining about their packed schedules and the challenges of family life in Hollywood. In the end, Amy Irving got $100 million for the divorce which might seem like a lot, but it was just a drop in the bucket for Spielberg, whose worth more than $5 billion.
Harrison Ford & Melissa Mathison – $118 Million
17 years of marriage and having two children couldn’t save this doomed Hollywood couple. Ford and Mathison divorced in 2001, and with no prenuptial agreement, she ended up getting away with $118 million of the actor’s cash. Mathison’s patience gave out after she called in lawyers, admitting she could no longer take Ford’s bad boy bachelor behavior and wanted to end their marriage. Unfortunately, Mathison passed away in 2015, while Ford tied the knot again in June 2010 with actress girlfriend, Calista Flockhart.
Craig McCaw & Wendy Petrak – $450 Million
At a time in his life when everything was going right, the founder of McCaw Cellular, Craig McCaw, sold his company to AT& T for over $12 billion and was married to his wife Wendy Petrak for 21 years. Fy 1995, the no longer happy couple split when McCaw filed for divorce. McCaw and Petrak decided to divide their mutual luxuries, including a large family home, yacht, and private jets, among other things. In addition to that, Petrak received $450 million cash in the couple’s divorce settlement.
Donald & Ivana Trump – $25 Million
During the 80’s, Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana, were the “it” couple of NYC. She was the beautiful European fashion model and he the young business tycoon with the Midas touch. It was only a matter of time before rumors of Donald’s reported affair with former beauty queen Marla Maples started to fly which is when Ivana filed for divorce. The heavily publicized break-up, which was settled in 1992, allowed Ivana to pocket around $25 million from her ex-husband.
Madonna & Guy Ritchie – $92 Million
The marriage between the Queen of Pop and the English filmmaker lasted only seven years, during which they had one child, Rocco, and adopted a baby boy from Malawai named David. It was also a very productive time for the singer, as she released four new albums and headlined three sold-out world tours. Luckily for Guy, the couple didn’t have a prenuptial agreement, and he made out like a bandit getting somewhere between $76 and $92 million as part of the divorce settlement from the Material Girl.
Lionel Richie & Diane Richie – $25 Million
After seven years of marriage, the singer and his second wife, Diane Alexander, called it quits. Diane was actually the one who ended their marriage because she felt the legendary singer was not a family man. The couple’s divorce garnered tons of media coverage, as the divorce settlement that Diane received was certainly newsworthy. After a dragged out legal dispute, Diana was awarded the couple’s $5 million mansion and a lump sum of $20 million, burning a huge hole in the artist’s hard-earned fortune.
Mel Gibson & Robyn Moore – $425 Million
Mel Gibson and his ex-wife, Robyn Moore, put an end to what seemed to be one of Hollywood’s happiest and longest-standing marriages After 26 years together, Robyn’s final decision to file for divorce was brought on by Mel’s DUI arrest in 2006 as well as photos surfacing of him with his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. Because the couple didn’t sign a prenup, Robyn ended up getting half of Mel’s fortune in the divorce, which was about $425 million. Not too shabby!
Frank & Jamie McCourt – $130 Million
Oh if this cozy couple could only flashback to happier days. Frank McCourt, known as the owner of Dodgers Stadium and Fox Entertainment Group, was married to wife Jamie McCourt until their messy divorce in 2011. Dubbed the “War of the Roses,” the couple’s divorce and battle over ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers was epic, even in a town famous for nasty celebrity splits. Since Frank is such a successful entrepreneur, the divorce ended up costing him a substantial $130 million!
Harold Hamm & Sue Ann Arnall – $974.8 Million
Harold Hamm, who is one of the biggest entrepreneurs in the gas and oil industry, divorced his wife Sue Ann Arnall in 2012 after 24 years of marriage. The legal battle between the two went on for over two years and ended when Sue finally accepted Mann’s settlement check of $974.8 million! Arnall refused Hamm’s first offer to try and get a bigger portion of his reported $13.4 billion fortune, and we don’t blame her. After all, she was very involved in Harold’s oil production company.
Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt – $400 Million
Since splitting up, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie-Pitt have agreed to keep a lid on it, regarding anything divorce related. Since the actress filed for divorce from Pitt on Sept. 19, the couple has been working with a private judge to come to a fair settlement. When Jolie filed for divorce, she asked for full physical and joint legal custody of all of their six children. While it’s still too soon to tell, rumor has it that the divorce will end up costing $400 million.
Jennifer Lopez & Chris Judd – $14 Million
“Love Don’t Cost a Thing…” Or does it? After Cris was hired to direct this music video for J.Lo, it was love at first sight and the pair married in September of 2001. However, the Bronx-born singer-actress filed for divorce from her husband and former choreographer less than a year after tying the knot, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Although they settled for an undisclosed amount, there are numerous reports J.Lo shelled out $14 million.
Ron Perelman & Ellen Barkin – $20 Million
After meeting the actress at a Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty, Ron Perelman took quickly to Ellen Barkin, and it was no time before the two were in full blown love. The businessman married Barkin, who became his fourth wife, in June of 2000. Their hot-tempered and short-lived marriage ended in 2006, and the divorce was an expensive one. Ellen reportedly received an “enormous” settlement of more than $20 million after she sold off jewelry Ron had given her. Talk about liquidating her assets!
Kenny & Marianne Rogers – $60 Million
Country crooner Kenny Rogers is no stranger to divorce—he’s been married five times—but his most expensive split was with his fourth wife, Marianne Gordon. Our favorite country singer was married to Gordon for 16 years and during that time had one child together. In 1993, the couple divorced, and Rogers shelled out a cool $60 million to Gordon. Regarding the hefty amount of the settlement Rogers said, “She deserves every penny,” as Gordon stood behind him when he didn’t have a dime.
Johnny Carson & Joanna Holland – $20 Million
Johnny Carson, the king of late night, has been married four times, but his most financially successful wife was model/socialite Joanna Holland, who squeezed $20 million out of their long and ugly divorce. At the time of their divorce, Carson was the highest paid TV personality, raking in $15 million a year. Carson fought hard during the highly publicized divorce which was stretched out over three years, but Holland came out victorious, gaining cash, three properties in New York, and one in Beverly Hills.
Ted Dansen & Casey Coates – $30 Million
Former “Cheers” star Ted Danson met Casey Coates in 1976 and the pair were inseparable for 15 years. Danson even took six months off to be by Coates side after she suffered a severe stroke in 1979. Things went south after Danson and Whoopi Goldberg began having a secret affair on the set of the film Made in America. In one of Hollywood’s most expensive divorce settlements at the time, Danson paid Coates $30 million, $2 million for each year they were married.
Greg Norman & Laura Andrassy – $103 Million
Greg Norman may be known for his skills on the golf course, but not when it comes to managing his finances as his split from his ex-wife, Laura Andrassy, cost him much more than he bargained for. When the golf legend left Andrassy in 2008 after 25 years of marriage, for fellow tennis star Chris Evert, he was forced to pay Andrassy an estimated $103 million! You’d think those big payouts would make couples work harder to keep their relationships together.
Adnan Khashoggi & Soraya Khashoggi – $874 Million
Saudi Arabian billionaire, Adnan Khashoggi was once thought to be one of the richest men in the world, before a combination of his gambling habit, lavish spending, and the hefty divorce settlement he paid Soraya in 1982, brought his fortune to a modest size compared to his best days. Khashoggi married his partner Soraya Khashoggi when she was just 20 years old, but the marriage ended sadly in an expensive divorce. Soraya sued Khashoggi for $2.54 billion but was awarded “only” $874 million. Not bad!
Kelsey & Camille Grammer – $30 Million
It must have really been love between these two because there was no prenuptial agreement when the couple wed. The star of Frasier married wife Camille in 1997, but the union eventually disintegrated. After 14 years of marriage and having two children together, the couple split up in February of 2011 once Kelsey found out that Camille only married him for the fame. Camille ended up with a gig on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and $30 million of Grammer’s money.
Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren – $750 Million
Tiger Wood’s gleaming reputation was shattered when news broke out about his adulterous behavior with not one or two, but dozens of random women. Woods and his ex-wife, Swedish supermodel Elin Nordegren, officially split in August of 2010 after being married for six years and having two children together. Tiger was reportedly forced to hand over a whopping $750 million in their divorce, although the final settlement between the two was undisclosed. Another beautiful marriage is broken by infidelity.
John & Beverly Charman -$95 Million
Mr. Charman wasn’t always known as the ‘King of the London Insurance Market.’ When Charman married his high school sweetheart Beverley, he had no money in his bank account, but during the couple’s 29 years of marriage, he built up assets becoming the eighth richest businessman in London. While married to John, Beverly gave up her job to raise their two children so when the couple separated in 2003 Beverly received $95 million in the divorce, making it the biggest divorce settlement in British history.
Samathur Li-kan & Florence Tsang-Chiu-wing -$154 Million
One of Hong Kong’s most powerful billionaires, Samathur Li-Kan, divorced his wife Florence in 2008 because she wouldn’t get an abortion. A Hong Kong judge ordered the wealthy real estate mogul to pay his ex-wife $154 million, making the divorce settlement one of the largest in the history of Asia. Florence was also awarded a luxury home in Hong Kong, another residence in London and two luxury cars. Needless to say, Florence was beaming as she emerged from the courtroom.
Michael & Juanita Jordan – $168 Million
It was 1984 when his Airness first laid eyes on model Juanita Vanoy at a restaurant in Chicago, and they got married five years later in Las Vegas. After years of trying to make the marriage work, they mutually agreed on a divorce. As part of the settlement, Juanita received $168 million, on top of the couple’s seven acre Chicago mansion and custody of their children Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine. It’s safe to assume she won’t be having money problems anytime soon.
Arnold Schwarzenegger & Maria Shriver – $375 Million
Terminator actor, athlete, and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver had a hard time splitting after 25 years of marriage. Maria Shriver filed for divorce from the actor and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, following the news of his affair with the family housekeeper. Not only did Arnold have an affair with the nanny but also fathered a child with her! Since the couple never had a prenup agreement, Shriver ended up getting $375 million and custody of their four children.
Reba McEntire & Narvel Blackstock – $47.5 Million
Country singer Reba McEntire and her husband Narvel Blackstock shocked their fans when they announced their split in 2015. The two have been working together since 1980 and eventually tied the knot nine years later. Despite this unfortunate turn of events, the two remain friends and continue to support each other professionally and personally. Due to the couple’s private nature it is hard to determine how much money was settled upon but given no prenuptial agreement was in place, the couple divided their assets equally.
Roman & Irina Malandina – $300 Million
This divorce may have remained unknown to most but believe us it was not cheap at all! From 1991 to 2007 Irina Malandina was married to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who was named 16th richest person in the world in 2016 and valued at 8.5 billion. When the couple divorced, Irina ended up getting $300 million in settlement money, which included cash as well as lavish homes in Moscow and London. In the end, Irina may not have gotten the guy, but she at least got some good consolation prizes.
Michael Strahan & Jean Muggli – $15 Million
Former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan met Muggli in 1994 when she was working in a skincare salon in Manhattan, and they married in 1999. Since saying “I do,” the two have had quite the tumultuous relationship as Muggli accused Strahan of repeatedly cheating on her as well as ignoring their twin daughters. Muggli even called the police in March 2005 claiming he had threatened to beat her. After filing for divorce, Muggli was awarded $15 million in a settlement and $18,000 in child support each month.
Jessie Williams & Aryn Drake-Lee – Approx. $4 Million
It has recently been confirmed that Jesse Williams and his wife Aryn Drake-Lee are amicably divorcing. According to court documents, Grey’s Anatomy star filed for divorce from Drake-Lee, a real estate broker, in Los Angeles on April 11. “She’s stuck with me through thick and thick and thick and thin. We know each other in and out.” Williams said. Because the divorce is so new, no settlement amount was disclosed, but we can estimate that it will be around $4 million plus child support.
Eddie Murphy & Nicole Mitchell Murphy
Nicole and Eddie met in 1988 at an awards show and the couple began dating shortly after. They subsequently married in 1993 and had five children together. Although the marriage seemed a happy one, the couple divorced in 2006 after nearly twenty years together. Following their split, Eddie Murphy dated and had a child with former Spice Girl Mel B. Nicole went onto date Michael Strahan. However, neither of the new relationships lasted either. Currently Eddie is dating Paige Butcher and the couple have a child together.
Kevin Costner & Cindy Silva – $80 Million
Kevin Costner met Silva in 1975, while the two were studying at California State University. Three years after graduating the pair married, but as Costner’s career heated up, things between them cooled down. 16 years of marriage and three children later, the Hollywood couple decided to call it quits as a result of Costner’s alleged infidelity. The Hollywood actor ended up having to pay $80 million to Silva in the divorce and later admitted that he had a child on the side with socialite Bridget Rooney.
